Hi All,

Just giving you all a heads up you will be recieving a letter from ford within the next few days stating there will be a re call on fiesta and fusion models. They need to fit a small washer to the linkage on the clutch pedal.

Had mine done today only took a few seconds, My family run a ford dealership hence the early notice.

Not sure but it includes the ST. No doubt you'll hear about it when Ford make it public in the next few days.

Yeah they place 1 washer to stop the clutch pedal master cylinder sliding off apprantly its been a common fault with the Fiesta and Fusion range

It has taken a long time! I'm guessing that this affects them all back to when the Mk6 came out 5 years ago (and IIRC the Fusion came out at roughly the same time).

wonder what the actual build date problems were, think mine was built either Dec06 or Jan07. already got it booked in for next week because the driver window is catching the seal when it goes up.

least Ford are doing something about it, anyone see watchdog with those Clio bonnets :| omg.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm off to Australia for three weeks so it'll have to wait till after Easter. If I don't find a letter on the mat when I get back I'll go asking questions.

The clutch pedal on mine makes a noise, but it sounds like the return spring is vibrating as the pedal rises.

And I'll check the piston rod pivot bolt is tight before I drive home!

It only affects right hand drive vehicles.
Guess what it's a TVM cost down that's gone wrong!!
Just like all your rattling doors and windows and seats!!

Well done TVM.

The squeaky clutch pedal is a seperate issue that is not on a recall.
Some grease on the spring will sort it

Mine was may/June 05 and so far nothing.

I looked at the pedal assembly and there's no bolt, just a short rod on the pedal arm that the clutch piston rod eye fits over. So there's nothing to stop the piston rod end eye moving off the end of the rod except the fact it would have to be seriously distorted out of line to do it. I expect this washer thingy is just one of those with fingers round the inside of the hole that pushes on but grips hard when you want to take it off.

Mine was snug up against the pedal arm. I'll keep an eye on it till I hear from Ford.

I recieved my letter this morning. Good timing actuall as Ive booked mine in this tuesday for its first service and to finally sort this clunking sound out from the n/s front!! (car been in 4 times to get fixed and they couldnt find the problem!!)... so they can also carry out the recall at the same time.

Fordie the garages wont contact you.. you have to get a letter to know that you are affected by the recall. Apparently its affected all Fiestas built in 2005 so it could be 05, 55 and 06 plate cars.

P.S. Mods can this be made a sticky please?

... and 07 (think mine was built either very late Dec 06 or Jan 07.. - didnt register it until March though), cause I just got my letter through this morning. No biggie I was 1/2 expecting it anyway.

/edit ... bit of a result. I had the car in Monday this week to fix the seal on the drivers electric window (the seal bit on the inside was getting caught).. I just phoned up my dealer and she checked on the computer and they'd already done it at the same time! Stealth repair! (i knew the clutch felt a little different and i just thought i was being picky! lol).

I wouldn't have thought so, cos you have to take a form to the dealer (you get sent it from Ford), they stamp it to say they have done the work, and you have to keep it with your service record.

Has anyone had the mod done yet? If so what does it entail and can you feel any difference with the clutch or is this merely a safety problem?

Its a weeeeee clip on the push rod of the clutch. Apparently there's b*gger all difference and its more of a "just in case"/fix thing.

Just wondered because mine seems to be getting worse to change gear, when i engage the clutch no matter how smoothly it jumps as if I have just dropped it. It could just be me being paranoid!

Well I finally got it done today... Here's a top tip:

DO NOT BOOK IT IN VIA THE SERVICE DEPT. JUST WALK STRAIGHT IN WITH THE LETTER AND ASK IF THEY HAVE SOMEONE ON HAND TO DO IT THERE & THEN.

I did this and avoided losing the car for half a day & some oik going out in it! It took the fella all of two seconds to fit it... What a fuss over something so small

I'd rather there be a fuss and a recall and a wee little clip than my clutch pedal going bye-bye

I'd say your vehicle is effected they probably just havnt sent the letter yet.... call your dealership and give em your reg and they can check on oasis if its effected.

If you have been in recently they should pick up the recall and do it you may not know about it as they should do it automatically

The good thing is, you're taking both cars in.
Now you can say, my ST does this...... or doesn't do this......
My wifes ST doesn't........or does as the case may be.
Make them drive them back to back and then investigate.
You're in a good position having a good one and a bad one there at the same time.
Good luck mate, I'm sure you'll get it sorted

oh well here goes dropped both cars off this morning around 09.40 and explained the crack with both cars because the woman on service reception could not find the job card for my st i asked roughly how long we would be looking to collect to which she said oh come back in around an hour to hour and half sir and both cars will be done,so with that we decicided to go for a walk as weather was warm,we came back to dealer at 11.30 to find the missus car had not moved but mine had,so into service reception we walked asking questions and here we go.
1, my st tracking looked at and out a little.
2, clutch recall done.
3, no problem with catalyst found and performance is ok.
the wifes car was just about to go in.
1, 3 month visuall check up and levels pressures checked
2, tracking out and done.
3, steering wheel flaking, new center section of steering wheel on order.
4, clutch recall done.
5, handbrake tightened.
we left the dealer at 13.00 oh and by the way the salesman who i wanted to speak to was infact off today.
so my next intention is to take my st to polar ford armed with the details that dave gave me the other day as i forgot to take them with me today and see what they have to say.

If you havent got a letter, you really dont have anything to worry about. There doesnt seem to be a definite end build date but it seems to mostly affect 05-56 plate cars.

All St's will be effected .... they are staggering them cos if they all got sent out in one go the dealerships would not be able to cope.

The Recall that is affecting the Fiesta and Fusions (all versions and engine sizes!) is affecting vehicles that were BUILT between the period of 01/03/05 to 31/12/06.

That's from someone who works in a Ford Parts Dept. Even though mine is an 07 it was actually build late Dec06, and was affected.

I bought 56-plate from Ford Direct (so pre-owned). How can I tell if this has been done already? Is it something I can check myself?

It was transported up from a Ford dealer in Kent to a dealer in Edinburgh for me, and I doubt the Edinburgh dealer have checked because although it was clean at pickup, it wasn't exactly prepared to a high level... and it looks like I need this GEM module too ... grrr.

If there is an easy way for me to check, I'd like to do that rather than be palmed off. I could ask them to sort the clutch pedal & GEM at the same time.

Andy.

When I took mine in, I was handed a piece of paper that said the recall issue had been sorted on my car. Do you think maybe the dealership in Kent would have a note of the car coming in and having the work done?

It's possible they did it in Kent. Just wondered if it was something I could spot. Going back to dealers Monday now, so mentioned on the phone that I'd like them to check if it has been done or not at the same time.

If you go back through this post you'll see the pic of the washer in question so it'll be a bit hard to spot. I'm bored so I might go and see if I can see it on mine

really simple recall takes a sec at most, basically comprises fitting a lil star clip on the end of the connecting rod to the clutch master cylinder

I had this issue on my last Fiesta, couple of years ago I was at the lights on the A406 - went into first gear and the clutch pedal just went - no tension at all. Stuck at the lights, cars beeping, had to push it to the side and call RAC.

Turned out the RAC guy knew exactly the problem and fixed it as he always does, putting a clip on the end of the clutch rod, stopping it falling out the ring. Was perfect since then, but even he said he's done loads of these clips to Fiestas (was an 02 reg)

I'm getting an ST 05 reg on Saturday, definetely checking it out for the clip.

No idea if mine has had it done or not, but with the cars at the age they are, it will have either already been done or it was insignificant and never caused a problem otherwise a previous owner would have had it fixed.

Reading the thread it sounds line some kind of circlip or starlock washer on a pin on the clutch pedal, you could probably get these from any fastener supplier but failing that ford should have it, presumably will be about £5 for a washer from them lol
