"i've been given a conditional offer of 3 points and a £60 fine or take it to court."

Take the conditional offer mate, its not worth the hassle.

all speedos read a bit wrong.....u can get a true reading from the digital display.....if you hold in your rest button while you start the car it will go into a diagnostics reading then you can toggle with the rest button till it reads mph and that readout will give u a much more accurate speed...a pain to do every time mind.....or a GPS Sat nav will give you a true speed as well......if that’s any help

I think its for facelift model only! I'm right??

in UK if u get caught u loose straight away 3 points? I'm correct?

Yes, its a minimum of 3 points if you get caught speeding, no matter by how little. If you get caught excessively then the amount of points can be more.

better here then!! loosing less points depending of how fast u get caught! make me think it may be better driving in france then! Did I say that??

No, the thing where you can change the different modes on the display by holding in the button when you start is on the pre-facelift also.

on the topic of speeding, can anyone tell me how many miles wrong the ST speedo is or is it just a myth?

Quote:

If your speedo says you're doing 40mph you're more likely to be doing 37mph.

If you have a sat nav like Tom Tom it gives a truer GPS speed and at speeds like 40mph it says I'm doing about 37-38mph...

yeah, i don't know about the Fiesta ST, but the Focus ST170 speedo was about 1-2 miles out. It showed you were going slightly faster than you actually were. I suppose they do that to avoid problems with speed cameras and stuff /shrug.

Also have you got the standard 17"'s? I think I remember if you have different sized wheels that would also throw out your speedo

I got caught by exactly the same sort of thing. NEVER EVER had a traffic offence before. I got caught on the A426 in a village called Marton on the way out to Southam. Its an A road that goes from 60 to 30 for about 200 yards, then back to 60!! I was caught doing 36 But again speeding is speeding. What gets me is that rule of thumb for speeding is 10%+2. So to speed at 35 in a 30 zone is fine, but 36 is points and a cash fine.

this is not strictly true it depends on the duty policeperson on the day. they would do you for 31/32 if they so wished as happended to a friend of mine!

My dad got done there for 36, were you heading off the roundabout? They get so many because it looks like a 60 road and you are accelerating upto speed. I know a few that have been done. Get a road angel!

Yes, thats right, I was leaving the roundabout going straight across it towards Brid etc. I thought it was still a 40 but for a small stretch it was a 30 and jumps up to 60 after the last house. I guess i'll have to get some sort of GPS device to help me out. I was speaking to blackspot, the makers of Roadangel and they tell me that the radar/laser function only tells you that you've been caught rather than giving you prior notice and was told a GPS unit is more up to date. The copper there is apparently known well, in fact he's so good at catching people that he gets overtime, hence being caught on a sunday. Anyone get away with it that you know of or did they accept the conditional offer?

Yes, I definitely wouldn't rely on just a radar detector which works off the signals that they give out. In any case IIRC isn't the law changing that only GPS detectors will soon be legal, and radar detectors won't be?
