Hmm but Ford should have thought about this and made the glass stronger/thicker. Perhaps you could argue its a design fault. I know that I have at least two chips on mine so am I to expect a crack if I turn the heated screen on?

Ummm... well since you asked... yes...?

A design fault.....? Why do people want to blame everyone in the world for something that... wait for it... just happens?
Plus how thick would you like this glass to be? Surely if the glass has HFS, is say 2 inches thick, has a chip it will STILL crack?

any chip can cause the windscreen to break on any type of car! so can't blame anyone for it!

They are not near the heating element so i might get away with it. Watch it bloody crack now i've said that ... just my luck. I'm not sure what the answer is to this problem but i've never had a standard window crack due to ice/chips. Perhaps I should have them filled in by autoglass. Only other car that did this was the Clio Cup because it has thinner glass to save weight.

I had a new windscreen at 6mths not because it cracked but because half the heater elements did'nt work they did'nt even look at the car just fitted a new ford replacement.for warranty reasons they har to fit a genuine ford screen.Ford might say why did'nt you bring it to us first to look at.

Wtf? Are you nuts? LOL... Turn up at the dealership with a cracked and broken screen under your arm saying "I demand to see the manager about this!!!". Iceman you really really have to get off this "its a characteristic" obsession of yours coz it aint healthy. Its only £50-70 for pitty's sake and doesnt affect your no claims so what exactly is the big deal? Its not like he's paying £300 - £400 for a new screen is it???? Our old BMW had a chip under the tax disc which my mum "forgot" about but I'm sure if the car had HFS she would have had to deal with it much sooner rather than later!

right i don,t really want to go of on one here but firstly i would not have gone to my dealers with the windscreen under my arm i would have gone down in situ with the foot long crack for all to see,its not about the money £50-£70 the response from ford is of no suprise its a chip that caused it but it can,t be seen without a magnifing glass.
