Ive had my Panther Black (no stripes) New ST now for 3 days factory ordered, just wondered how bumpy the ride is supposed to be? cos to me it seems pretty rough, is this normal for a new ST? has anyone found that there traking and balancing was out on there factory ordered car?

What im about to ask will probably sound stupid but, picture this... the bonnet is up on your ST, the engine is running, is it normal for the engine to make a clicking noise as its running?? I only ask cos ive never owned a Ford before so not exactly used to the noise the engine makes.

And again from inside the car when driving and going slowly through the rev range can you hear the same slight clicking noise coming from the engine as the speed builds gradually??

All replies will be much appreciated!

Thanks guys!

DOn't know about the clicking really... would have to listen to the engine to hear it... I suggest you get it back to the dealer and get them to listen to it.

With regards to the ride quality... it's a Hot Hatch so if you've been used to comfy saloons then it will be quite a shock to the system. You will get used to it and find when you see the benefits of such a great handling car you won't care when your spine shatters after too much time in your

I'm sure people will throw some comments at you about this

Yeah, another vote for the air-con, mine makes that kind of noise when the aircon is on. And the ride is very firm! The day I picked it up from the dealer, I was driving back home along roads I had previously travelled along in my Ka, and I had no idea the road surface was so uneven LOL!

my engine is noiser than i thought it would be, i think it has something to do with the lack of feltstuff on the bonnet like you used to get!

and the ride is stiff compared to a family car.

Welcome!

Yeah if your not used to family cars then yes it's going to be rough, but it's not too bad really. I used to have an ST170 an I think the ride is better on the Fiesta ST with any compromise on the handling.

Not sure about the clicking noise, will have a listen later on.

Ive only had mine 3 days also.

If you mean a tappety sort of not very smooth sound then all ST engines are like that. When I got my car I was amazed at how rough the ride seemed but that's nothing compared to what its like now its lowered. When I took my dad out in it he instantly told me the suspension needed softening

Good name btw!

Thanks for the replies, you've put my mind at ease now, knowing the ride is supposed to be that hard! thanks!

Yer PinkRinse thats the noise im talking about the tappety noise as the engine is ticking over while parked, so is that the normal sound of all Ford engines??

It's probably the wheels attached to the accessories belt as they spin around. Mine does it aswell.

The ticking/tapping noise is the sound of the injectors opening and closing.
You may also be hearing the pressure relief valve on the power steering pump.

The suspension is stiff but bear in mind that the dealers don't always reduce the tyre pressures to the correct level at PDI.

Mine were 40 all round still when I picked mine up.
Should be:

32 psi front
29 psi rear

Hope this helps.

Im going to check my tyre preasure tonight. Alot of people have had odd preasure readings when they have checked their tyres after delivery from dealers.
