Quite simply whats the best way to run the engine in??

So far im keeping it below 3500 revs then occasionally up to 4000, but how many miles need to be on the clock before i can put my foot down a little?

thanks!

I did 500 miles at those levels then slowly went up from there. Now at 1000 miles and drive it like normal. The main point of running in(as far as im aware) is to bed in the breaks, gearbox and clutch as the engine is bench run in for 6 hours b4 being put in the car. BWTFDIK

I am just going up to 4000 for the first 500 miles then every 200 miles increasing it a 1000.

Make sure your engine is warm before pushing it though. At least 10-15 mins drive time should be enough.

Thats a good point there. You should definitely try and gently ease up how you push it as you go through the first 1000 miles (when its not cold obviously, but that applies always even when it is run in!). Going from very low revs all the time to completely flooring it once you get over 1000 miles is no better than not running it in at all IMO.

Agreed .

But, like me, it depends how late you are getting up for work... ...Then...!! Floor it!! .
