for insuracne quote purposes. how much do you reckon my 18 month old ST (55 plate, 2005) is worth? I told them book value and they dont really get it, they said i need to tell them the price. ive checked parkers, and it says around 10500 for a dealers trade in. should i say 11k?

I don't get why insurance companies even ask this crap, because it makes zero difference on pay outs. Some idiot wrote my wife's car off, and they didn't even take the value we said into account.

I'd say 10k tbh Fordie, just looking through parkers and ebay classified.

It helps them to charge more if you say its worth more at the time of taking your policy out,10 mins later things are different, like your car will probably lose 2 grand the minuet you drive off the forecourt, they have all got us by the b******

Always quote lower than list becasue premium is based upon this value. Should the worst happen and your car get knicked or written off you can argue that the car is worth more by getting 3 "proofs of value" (autotrader ads) of roughly what say say it is worth and then they will take the average value of the three.

Just insurance companies screwing people over yet again!

Wish i had thought of that insured mine a few days ago £350 but if you look at the insurance companies breakdown of costs they only charge £270 thats £80 for the brokers fee, next time i'm going to try and insure direct with an insurance company to cut out the middle man (broker) Am i correct in saying you can insure direct with the compamy ?

Wouldn't they then penalise you though for effectively having it underinsured, and hence paying a lower preimium than you should have been paying though?
