it remains glowing on even when i leave the car. how do you turn it off?

it stays on for about 10mins then goes off not sure why Ford programmed it that way

it was done so that sales reps could read their mileage when filling up with fuel without having to put the key back in the ignition

also comes in handy when selling so the dealer just unlocks door to check mileage,instead of putting keys in ignition.

Yeah it soon goes off. hardly a massive drain on the battery but I was puzzled by it at first. Suppose displaying the milage is a good touch without needing to put the key in the ignition.

eventually i foundit does shut itself off!

another quest is where does the passenger airbag deploy from? under the glove compartment? it says AIRBAG on the dash but there is no opening or seam in the plastic

my guess is that recess in dash on left. but it looks like a shelf for keys, pencils, comb etc. stuff that during airbag deployment would impale the passenger!!

i have seen airbags deploy and believe me there does not have to be a visible seem on the exterior of the dash. The force of it deploying breaks the inner seem not visible with some force.

If you look closely at the dash on passenger side you will see a fine line forming a square in the dash just above the shelf recess thing, thats were it explodes from.

i examined it very closely but there is no seam. mine is a 2007 model. the pre facelift ones have the seam i think.

you are referring to the 2002 dash , example below.it has no recess above glove compartment.

strange ford owners manual does not explain this, nor does it write against putting a towel/dash cover or other obstruction on dash

It's a burst through airbag, the dash is laser cut from the rear just enough so that it doesn't mark the A surface.
