my brand new fiesta has a sort of mouldy cheese/egg smell when using it . initially i thought it was the aircon but i can smell it even when i dont use the aircon.

could it be something (wax?) on the exhaust? or something trapped in the aircon? any ideas? thx

its probably wax on the exhaust , car companies coat the cars in wax for transport. it will wear off , how old is it?

my car is spanking new. i read a bit on internet and found the smell i am detecing corresponds with Hydrogen Sulphide, which is one of the gasses emitted from cat exhausts which is characterised by a rotten egg smell. anyone else smell it?

Yes mine smells the same. Its something to do with the Cat but not sure whether this means it is faulty or not...

Dave T ST has had a cat failure on his ST. Get it looked at. Better safe than sorry.

Can you smell it whilst driving or when you get out of the car? If it's whilst driving, it's unlikely to be the cat, since all the smell is behind you.

Whilst driving the air from the facia is either picked up from just below the windscreen or down in the footwells if the system is on recirculate. Also it goes through the aircon cooling radiator whether the aircon is on or not, so mold or grot on that will still smell.

The external intake is supposedly protected from the air circulating round the engine, but you might get a bit of smell if the engine is producing a lot of fumes from burning/drying protective coatings. Lift the bonnet after driving to see if the smell comes from there.

Also if you've been driving hard the clutch gives off a sulphurl ike smell since they changed the material used for enviromental reasons.

Afternoon,

If the car is brand spanking new, then there is usually a smeel for the first couple of hundred miles due to all the parts within the engine bay being new. A rise in temperature causes this and is usually nothiong to worry about.

I still get a small smell now and again when I puch her harder than I had before.

Give it a couple of days and it should start to dissipate.

Chris

Get the exhaust checked out mate as smelling of rotten egs means the cat is on the way, though saying that, the smell is caused by unburnt fuel entering the cat.
Knowing Fraud as well as I do, they won't do anything to the car unless there is a huge 20 foot neon sign on the roof sayin "the cats knackered"

Good luck and welcome to the pleasures of Fiesta ST ownership
