Hi chick, welcome to the site

My mum had a fiesta when i was learning to drive. It was a 1.25 Ghia on 1998 (R) plate. Theyre not bad cars (my sis now has it) and quite nippy for a 1.25. But if you have just passed your test the insurance will still be quite pricey cos i think the 1.25 are insurance group 5. Maybe for the first year of driving stick to something around a group 2/3 and get a years driving and a years no claims under your belt which will help to reduce your premium.

I had a 1L Pug 106 (4 speed box) when i first passed and i was paying around the £800 mark on that and that was Third Party Fire & Theft!

yeah my first car was a citroen AX 1.1 £800 third party when i learnt to drive, now got a pug 306 1.9 diesel but after two years no claims its only 500 but its still only third party. Get a years driving and no claims then insurance goes down quite a bit if your lucky!!!

Being older and having the pass plus will help but i think you'll be still classed as an inexperienced driver. Have you been driving on anyone elses insurance or have you just passed?

I'd do some test insurance quotes and see what sort of prices are coming out.

Is the insurance company one that allows named drivers to build up no claims?

I wouldnt have thought the insurance would be too bad on a 1.25 fiesta then even without any no claims. But lots of things will alter your quote - where you live, where its kept overnight, what you'll be using it for etc. Do some insurance quotes and see what comes back. If its too expensive then i think the Fiesta Encore and finesse (1.3) are a group 4. Maybe there ones to look at?

Hi, best bet is to get some quotes on tesco and other companies online to check on the insurance, but I am sure it shouldn't be too expensive and won;t vary that much with a years driving experience and being over 21.

The 1.25 zetec fiesta's are really good first cars, as has been said, they are very nippy, much better than the 1.3 engines also available in the fiesta's of that era. Typically reliable also in the main!

Hope this helps.

My mums fiesta has been a good car. The only thing thats really been wrong with it is she had to have the wishbones replaced a couple of times. Not sure if thats a common problem with fiestas or not. i don't think it was too expensive though.

I think Fiesta are good little cars. We now have 4 on our driveway

Hi BigRuss

My first ever car was a P reg fiesta and i hardly had any trouble with it apart from the wheel bushes which needed replacing. They are a great car, easy to drive, economical, and good on insurance. I would advise you to get one with PAS and perhaps the Ghia model so you have a little more extras. The 1.25 zetec is also very nippie as well. I found also the car solid and protected me well especially when i unfortunately wrote it off.

My first car was an E reg Fiesta. Manual choke (which was a big shock after learning to drink in a modern peugeot with NO choke!!). It ran slow, took hills slow, the car shook and im sure it was a death trap.

Cost more to insure than it did to buy but it got me from A to B until i got my 02 Reg Freestyle 1.8 TdDI.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh meeemoriessssssss

(But, no i wouldnt recommend an ST for a first car especially with the insurance! Cant see the 1.25s or even a Ka being good until you get the insurance points up or get a little older)
