I stupidly scratched the passenger door yesterday whilst washing the car so have been to ford and bought the touch up kit. I have just applied the first coat to the scratch (only about 2cm long) but am wondering whether I should apply a second coat and then leave it to dry again before putting the clear coat lacker on it. I want to do it properly so that it doesn't look crap.

Any advice greatly appreciated

What do the instructions suggest? i've always found that touch up paint jobs look worse than the scratch being touched up

The ford touch-up stick for Diamond White looks awful once dry, I tried it. In the end I got chipsaway man out, miles better.

I have had a quote for a respray of the cars front wings, bonnet and front bumper for £210.

Well I wish I'd seen the replies first because I have done it and it looks utter crap. Even worse than the scratch to start with. It looks like there is a lump of tree sap attached to the passenger door. I was thinking that t cut might remove the lacker thats made it look like that. Im going to the dealer tomorrow to see what they suggest?
Im well annoyed now, i wish i had left it alone. would t cut work do you think?

Yeah just get chipsaway man to do it. We have all been in the same boat, the touch-up sticks are rubbish. I made a hash of mine and it when it dried it look like a mank-off white/yellow.

Gave chipsaway a call and he done a top job. Can't remember the price but it was less than £80.

I know what you mean Ben because I have several of these blobs on my bonnet! Saves the whopping chips I've got (down to the metal) going rusty though... Sadly the car is so badly marked the whole front end needs a respray.

Paint nowadays really isn't as good as it used to be. It sratches and marks so easily, I had the same problem Ayesha with my sportka a couple of years ago. Looks like someone has fired a very small machine gun at the front end of the car. Money saving tactics though I guess.
