Hi Guys,

Just a quick question. The tyre wear is running slightly low on the front but it's like brand new on the back.

Does anyone know any problems if I wanted to change the front wheels with the rear would that be ok? I expect it's only a 5 mins job at quick fit but don't know if there is any complications in doing this.

Thanks

But remember that by the time the fronts wear down to the point they need replacing, you will need 4 new tyres and with the P Zero Neros at around £70 each fitted and balanced it could be a costly thing.

Just watch the rear if they are getting low on tread (especially when we get in to wet season), as if there is less tread on there than the front, you may experience the occassional oversteer if driving enthusiastically.

I would have though that it was safer to have more tred on the rear tyres. Just tyres told me that Ford recommends you swop them over when you replace the front tyres - so the new ones go on the back.

All the tyre people say that, Personally, I think it's because they wish to do everything they can to prevent the tail coming round, since few drivers have any idea how to react to the tail slide, whereas understeer is more progressive and the accident happens in a straight line where the air bags are effective!. Even the recommended tyre pressures are biased towards understeer. One could make the case that the lightly loaded rear tyres need more tread to avoid aquaplaning at speed, but then, they're usually running in the dry line behind the front tyres.

I'll be putting the back wheels on the front for winter as they're almost new, but I won't have tyres with less than 4mm total tread on an ST at either end. Below 4 mm the braking distance on blacktop really starts to increase rapidly.
