Reving / ECU problems.

Why is it that the Fiesta is fitted with the same Electronic Management System, but many people have reported either similar or different problems. When the problem has been highlighted with Ford, they download a new patch for the ECU which will either cure the problems or start new ones!!
Can someone who works for Ford find out why there is a problem with the ECU and why many people have different problems either before or after the new patch is installed.
It seems rather odd and annoying that a company as large as Ford will not acknowledge this problem and hence even sort it out. Why is it so difficult to do this?
I'm not technically minded but someone in a previous post indicated that a fly-by-wire system is difficult to match up to the ECU. Then I say why did Ford do it in the first place if this is so difficult? Bring back the accelerator cable I say.
The fiesta ST would be a perfect fun car if this issue was sorted out.

i understand what you are saying but i cant yet say that it has taken any fun of the car away, its more annoying than anything, i was more disappointed with the way the first service guy brushed me off than the problem itself!
I expected there to be some minor issues with the car, you have to kind of expect it with the first years worth of new models. I agree that ford should take more action but its unlikely that they will hi light the issue to new buyers incase it puts them off!

So to all you ST drivers, would you still have bought your ST if you know what yo do now, i.e. the revving thing, squeaky clutch/accelerator, knocking in the power steering?

You're right Chris, the squeaky clutch and knocking power steering can easily be rectified. I wonder if its a batch of dodgy ECU causing the revving problem and it doesn't happen to all ST's.
Oh well, mine's ordered anyway.......fingers crossed it'll be ok.

I have loads of problems with mine which I think the following:
The ST is built on a lot of the same components from existing car models like the Fiests MK6 and the Mondeo. There should not be any problems, not least the type of problems that exist.
The ST should have spent a little more time in R+D for the engine performance realted stuff, but...
FORD... "a day late and a dollar short".
The problems I have with my car are down to bad manufacture and not design problems.
The Software for the ECU really needs writing properly. That said, fly-by-wire throttle controls are not more of a technical challange than a throttle cable.
I have had cars with Fly-by-wire throttles before, all have been great.
The throttle positioning is done in a little box attached to the accelerator pedal body, and the throttle posisiton is transmitted to the ECU in data from there, as opposed to the throttle position sensor at the end of a throttle cable on the engine itself.
Mine does it when cold, and is fine when it's warm.
