What warranty does a Fiesta come with?

My ST is second hand and barley over 2 years old and 34k miles. I think one of the CV joints has gone as it knocks and grinds but Ford tell me I have no warranty. This is my first Ford I have owned, and to honest it is going to be the last. I've never had a car with less than a 3 year transferable warranty before.

The warranty is 3 years. Are they trying to get out of fixing it for free by saying it's wear and tear or something? Or are they just saying it only has a 2 year warranty?

they are saying that since I bought it second hand from a non Ford dealer then the warranty is not valid. I've never had that with any other car I've had, no wonder Ford are going down the pan.

Just had a quick browse and Ford stae Fiestas only come with a 1 year warranty, is this true????? To extend it to 3 years you need to extend the warranty.

Yep if you dont keep to the servicing schedule then after a year you have no warranty. This happened to me on my mk5 Fiesta. I had been made redundant just as the service was due, couldnt afford it til a few months later, had it done and then a short time later the fuel filler neck went but I argued the case and they replaced it FOC as a goodwill gesture. They explained that because I hadnt had it serviced within 1 year of registration or XX,XXX miles I had no warranty on a car just over a year old.

My service log is fully stamped up, so there's no reason for it not being under warranty. Sounds like they are looking to avaoid doing it. Shame, I've had 2 Minis in the past and they never checked anything other then the registration number before doing any warranty work, having said that the Minis never had anything this major go wrong with them.

To be quite honest I hate this car, I wish I'd never bought it, and now with Ford fobbing me off with their useless customer service and worthless warranty it just means I'll never touch a Ford again. This thing was supposed to save me a bit of money while still being fun, so far it hasn't done either!

Its always a shame to hear something like this, though it sounds like there must be more to this than meets the eye.
You need to find out why they are claiming the warranty is void and if you don't get a satisfactory answer from your dealership, contact Ford directly to find out whats going on.
The ST is a good car and I have never had a problem with Ford before, my local dealership is very good and have been accomodating in the past, even though I can be very fussy.
It is either a case that this problem with the car is not covered under the warranty (wear and tear) or they have a problem with the service or vehicle history.
Don't hate the car, the ST is a lovely drive and a very rewarding car to own.

I spoke to Ford on the phone, and they asked for the registration number and where I bought the car from. When I said the name of the second hand dealer he said that since I bought the car second hand from a non ford dealer I have forfited my warranty and the repair would be chargable. I have since found the T&C's for the warranty and it doesn't mention anything other than keeping the service book upto date. I'm going to ring another garage this afternoon and see if I get the same load of bull.

I've never really settled with this car. My last was a Cooper S so I guess my standards may be a little high. I'm not use to having speaks and rattles randomly appear and disappearing in a car, and I would of liked a few more mpg given it is no where near as quick as my old Cooper S but still guzzles the same amount of fuel. This is the first time I've had to deal with Ford, but dealing with BMW was almost a pleasure. Basically my whole Ford experience has been disapointing. Hopefully once this problem is sorted out I can start trying to find some enjoyment in the car, but it's going to be hard to do knowing I'll have forked out £400 in the first 8 months of owning it to replace Fords substandard parts!

Can I just clarify that you have spoken to Ford directly and not just a dealership?
My friend bought hers from a second hand dealer and her warranty is still in tact! It doesn't make a huge amount of sense.
My local dealership is called Gates (of Harlow) and they are pretty helpful and friendly. Perhaps try giving them a call on 0844 8475774 (local call rate)

Thanks Niburu, I spoke to one of the dealers close to me, not Ford directly. Going home at lunch time to get all my manuals and brochures so I can have them in front of me when I ring them.

Anyone know of a garage in the Staines area that has a good reputation by any chance?

Yeh that sounds like a load of BS to me there Blusox! Like you say they're probably just trying to get out of doing a warranty job. I was told they couldn't replace my passenger door lock under warranty because I had an aftermarket exhaust lol

Well, I've just got my log book and paper work for my car after popping home at lunch. It has had both it's services, the first one with Ford, the second with a regualr garage. This shouldn't be a problem as the classic warranty says any garge can service the car, only the premium service requires a Ford dealer. Having said that I though an EU law a few years ago made it illegal to make drivers use a main deal or else loose the warranty as it consituted price fixing?!?
All I can find is the way Ford break down teh warranty. They give 1 years manufacturers warranty then 2 years Optional Extended Warranty. I don't like the look of the word "optional" here, all of us who think they have a 3 year warranty may want to check that the extra 2 year option was taken. The service book says your Ford dealer will supply the T&C's of this 2 year warrenty. Have any of you got thoses T&C's, I can't find them.

Ford gives a 3 year warrenty on the car, but only 1 year on "trim". If a CV joint has gone, it will be cover under warrenty unless they can prove that the damage was caused by misuse or modification.

Some good news, a friend recommecned a Ford dealer to me, I phoned them and they have said my car is still under warranty. Also gave me a list of all the warranty work my car has had in the past. It seems my car has had more work done on it that Joan Collins!!! It would seem my previous owner was a little more "spirited" then I am when driving.

So my car goes there on Saturday and they are going to give it a look at and order the right parts hopefully. Fingers crossed I get it sorted quick, might start finding some fun in the old ST yet!
