I have a preface lift model which sometimes just won't start...take key out then back in and it starts straight away

Mine will do this every time if i stall it, its an 05 pre facelift. I find to overcome this take the key out and then start the engine, but this sounds a little different to your starting problem

whay mods does your st have if any? and when was last service? it could be any number of very small things making it not fire up right away

yes it seems to do it from cold and only if i drive around a mile then stop turn it of then when i got to restart it it will crank for 5 to 10 seconds befroe it will start and also i have noticed from cold when i change gear it holds the revs but is fine when warm.
