Last week my had it's MOT and luckily all went through without a glitch and I have him back now safe and sound.

Yesterday I dropped Silkie (my silver focus) down to the garage for it's MOT which has happened today. Unfortunatley it requires all around discs and pads... For 4 of each will mean a bill of around £300 just for the parts... OUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm going to find out more info about when it's going to be done and the exact cost of it. Brings back home how expensive our cars cost when things need to be replaced

Ontop of this I also have the Tax this month for £170... argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

Thank god Sarah is so good and helps me with the cars.

Surley you can get the disks and pads yourself for a much better price than that! I was looking at uprated pads and disks for the fez for around that much

as Decoy says get the bits and do the brakes yourself, brakes are not hard to work on, my 1st XR2 failed the MOT quoted £300 ish to sort it out my dad said "I will do you a deal I will buy the bits, you learn how to change them and when your sorted you can do the fronts on my car too!" the bill for all the bits was under £100 for both cars, mind it was 1990

Not good news for Silkie there Scott... I'm sure she'll pull through.

I'm sure she's needed new brakes for a while now, I've noticed them before when I've seen the car

Not long done the discs and pads on the sister in laws focus 1.8 zetec, fronts were about £50 all in, easy to do save yourself some money mate and do them yourself. Backs aint that hard to do, hers were ok just cleaned them up and done the handbrake.

Sorry to hear that Silkie has failed her mot Scott. Hopefully you'll manage to get the brakes done at a reasonable price and she'll be back on the road soon.

As has been said changing the disks and pads is really straight forward Only becomes fiddly if you were changing the fluid and have to bleed, but that shouldn't be required. Price sounds high for the bits, are they genuine ford or something? You can by good quality after market kits at very resonable prices, opt for a brand though rather than some chinese rubbish though!

Thats just an estimate atm and yes using 100% new ford parts.

I'm going to phone ford later and get a price for employee discount... this will literally be cost price without any profit.

My focus has the added rear discs on it as I requested they were put on. This is what makes it more expensive as it's not a drum. Easier to do mind... but even then I don't like messing with things such as brakes, id prefer someone else to do it... it's piece of mind if anything else.

They have been on their way out for a while Dave but I wasn't going to change them until I had my monies worth out of them!

I'm unsure if your referring to the squeek on my brakes... this isn't a problem it's just the inside of the discs are smoother then the outside, this is whats causing that loud sqeeking. They are ok luckily *few*

Well... since Sarah is contracted and was off ill on antibiotics last week she's not getting paid anything for being off

With 2x MOT, 1x £175 Tax and All the Discs and Pads needing to be replaced on Silkie at a cost of £200 (this is seriously cheap as I got the parts 50% cheaper as my dad gets the employee discount luckily) I don't think we are going to be able to make it to bakewell now

Over £450 to spend over the next 2 weeks on just these things and with all the other payments we have to make it's impossible

What can you do though... without me in a job STILL... times are extremely difficult.

To be honest i have been thinking the same thing, maybe time for the RS to go, i have just bought vicky a 98 ford ka3 so she can build up her no claims discount, she is still insured on the ST insurance so can still enjoy that but the ka is now the school run and shopping car (no more dents in the ST),the thing is running 3 cars is going to cost, the escort can be sorn next month, but the insurance and tax are due on the fezz, sometimes needs must and with 2 kids to sort out for school, can i justify the 3 motors.
