I'm sure we've had this one before but I could do with some advice on repairing an annoying scrape I have on my car

This is very annoying because it's something that someone else managed to do for me, and am trying to sell the car on. Hence, i'm not best pleased to say the least

It actually looks like a stone-chip/scrape, about 5mm˛ on the passenger door. The bad news is that I think it's gone through the lacquer so I'm not convinced it will simply polish out. Haven't tried polishing it yet, but will in the next couple of days when I'm not working nights

Don't really know what to try next before calling anyone out - any of you have any suggestions? I've never used T-Cut or anything like that, and don't plan on making this my first time

I'll try and get a picture of it, although my skills with the camera aren't quite as good as Scotty's..........

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
J

Im a bit p*ss*d off with German roads.... their roadworks! When they are resurfacing the road they put the tar down a then tip a whole wagon load of fine gravel over it then leave it! Regardless to say u drive down the road and all u hear is the gravel hitting ur car! Its so annoying! Especially as every exit road from my house has had this done so no way of avoiding it!

Dont think Auto Glym has got any hope of getting all the crap off my car right now!

Ford will have a little spray can of your colour, spray a little into the cap of the spray can and using an artists brush paint in the scratch( clean the scratch with some acetone first)and then get out some cutting compound and get to work ,then polish to a nice shine. It,s a thankless job especially for one small scratch,With the roads here I usually wait until I have lots to do before even thinking about it.

Not the most elegant solution but what about mudflaps... Maybe just for the road rebuilding season - we have exactly the same crap here is switzerland... What can't they just resurface the road properly...

Not elegant but practical, mudflaps would help.

I'm considering some for the winter, with all the salt they wack on the streets here to melt the ice... I don't really care much about looks in winter as in any case I already have to stick on ugly 15-inch steels with hubcaps so while I'm at it might go all the way... It will all come off in April anyway...

I wonder if such a film can be applied to the side sills also and if there's anywhere in Europe it can get done.

At least they resurface roads in Switzerland and Germany!

We've got the worst roads in western europe

Used to be by law but it was difficult to enforce so legally it's debatable. One thing is for sure though: If you are involved in an accident and even if it's clearly not your fault you can still get into trouble for not having the correct winter equipment if the season calls for it. Pretty much everyone has it though... Have you got your winter wheels yet?

Wow expensive... Is he trying to sell you 17's ? You know that 15's are also homologated on the ST for winter use... They are much cheaper but of course you need different rims to mount them on. I was lucky as I still had my tyres from the Sierra which I kept for the ST. I also got "T" speed rating which is a lot cheaper. I don't think I'll have many opportunities to drive over 180kph in winter.
Also if you get dfferent wheels, you preserve the nice original alloys from the unfriendly winter salt. I've already "lost" 4 alloys on my Clio.

Look in the manual, all the allowed dimensions are listed.

Try also here: http://www.reifendirekt.ch (or .de)
They ship tyres directly to your home, you just have to find a garage that will fit them but they are much cheaper than from the garage - they also ship to Germany.
