Some insurance companies dont add any extra to insurance if you have mods, Am with Greenlight, they only charge 25pds admin fee each time I call up with more stuff to add to my insurance policy!!

Pretty sweet!!

If you don't add it to your policy, I think it's mad. What is the point in saving a few quid to then have your policy potentially invalidated?

I would get a quote mate, if it's too much, then don't do the mod.

i would get it added on, its only a few quid at the end of the day and could be the difference between your car insurance being valid or not. not worth it if you ask me. but its up to you and how much you want to pay. think i pay an extra £71 a year for my mods

I once read a story where a insurance company refused to pay out because the owner hadn't declared that they had changed the rear lights. Bearing in mind their claim was because someone had hit their parked car and drove off, this seems pretty harsh, but they will do anything to hang on to your money. I personally cannot see the advantage in not declaring the mods, but it is up to you.
Once I start adding bits, I'm not even going to purchase them without getting a quote from my insurance company

Agree with Stu. If you are not going to add it to the policy then dont discuss it on here.

There was that guy who blogs from prison, they used forum evidence to support that he drives dangerously when he hit a car head on while overtaking. They do check!

Always declare your mods - not worth them not paying out if you're unlucky enough to have an accident. Plus as your insurance would technically be void, is it not effectively illegal as you're technically driving round without insurance?

My current insurer (who I will be leaving when my policy runs out) charge £25 admin plus extra per month depending on the mod! Although it can be costly, it is worth it!

I've never declared mine. Probably should though. If anything ever goes wrong, hopefully it's a theft! Then it wont matter what you've declared hahaha.

ALWAYS declare your mods children That's why insurance is going up and up for silly people that aren't telling the truth...

You'll be surprised with your honesty. I declared I'm supercharging and for my honesty I will not be paying any extra. Thank you-please....

101% declared. Someone I know had grief after his ST was written off because the standard wheels were a different colour and he hadnt informed them! Now thats petty..

People who do not declare mods go to hell.

See you all in heaven.

Well.. not necessarily. If it get's broken into and has to go for repairs through the insurnace and the mods are reported to the insurer then it doesn't matter that the mod has nothing to do with the theft, they won't pay out.

As has been said, it's dicey not reporting mods to your insurer. If someone runs into you and the person inspecting it decides to report the mods that haven't been declared to the insurer then you won't get a penny. If you were in a crash that was your fault then it could be even worse. You'd then be personally liable for the full cost of the damage to your car, any third parties cars, their personal injuries... what about the bridge you just took out? £150k repairs?
