Hello all,

I think one of the options for the ST facelift model is an "aux line in"....

Am i being stupid or would this be an input jack for the stereo in which you could connect an iPod using a lead from the headphone socket to radio?

sorry if this is a silly question, but if it is, it is something i will go for as my iTrip is a pain touse in London due to the number of pirate stations!

cheers

the only problem is that a headphone socket isnt a line out, although it will still work fine the volume might be a bit dodgey, a line out is like the one one the ipod dock (if you see what i mean). useful feature though and i'd get it, just a shame they charge you 20 quid for it when they could just give you it standard

i agree, that it is something they could give you for free, as £20 is steep for a little input on the radio.

Regarding the volume, i do the same thing on my PC at work, it has a single line connector from my hard drive. I put the lead from the speakers into the headphone socket on my ipod and it works fine. so i dont think there should be any problem with volume.
As long as the Ipod is set at about 80% volume then the sound should play fine, as you can control the loudness through the radio volume. It would be the same priniciple as using the iTrip. the manual recommends you have the ipod volume at about 80% and using the stereo to control the loundess of the music.

Unfortnately i have just sold my old 3G ipod on Ebay as i bought a 4Gen 20Gb in Hawaii a month ago. (soon also to be sold on ebay due to bloody apple releasing the 30GB video ipod for the same price 6 weeks later! styill off to vegas in 2 weeks so i am gong to buy one then!) I gave my dock away with the ipod so i cant check it. oh well.

Does anyone else use an ipod in their car? how is it connected up. I use my itrip, which is fine where i live, but when i drive to work to london on a saturday, as soon as i hit the blackwall tunnel i cant use it anymore as there are so many pirate stations on air. pain!

you can get cables that plug into the cd changer port on the head unit. it would have a few advantages over a standard aux input; proper line out (through the bottom of the ipod), carges your ipod and you can use the buttons on the stereo and steering wheel controls to change songs

i am intrested to know if such a cable is available for the 6006 if anybody knows??

nope. No one makes such a cable for the 6006. and there's no input round the back for one anyway. The closest i've got to that is my iTrip

thats good to know, looks like the aux in is probably the best option then in terms of ipod connection
