Hi my name is Dave, I have been hanging around these forums for a few weeks now, you know looking for ways to improve my Fiesta ST and make it a bit sportier!! That is my only complaint about it, it's a GTI, not a sports car (and i don’t mean 2 seater or open top, but the way the engine revs and feels the handling etc makes a sports car). But i think that could be fixed with a 275BHP (yes that’s correct 275B(loody)H(orrendous)P(ower)) Look here "http://www.raceline.co.uk/duratecframes.htm" and then click the "Duratec-R Engine Kits " and go oh kcuf I want that !!! How about a 2.3 Lt engine!! a dry stump ohhh send me away !!!!
Good to be here gents!

Welcome to the Site and Forum Dave. I'm glad you have decided to sign up and post Let me get this right... your wanting to tune your Fiesta up to 275bhp... that would just spin the wheels and make a right mess surely? Would would need to convert it to 4wd if you wanted to put down that much power. A motorsport have done this with a Mk6 Fiesta and put a VERY tuned Cossie engine they had in their mk1 focus and it BLOODY SHIFTS!!! Keep us tuned in!!! Scotty

Well what about a 700 bhp rear wheel drive car. Surely that would just spin the wheels all the time. Well no, becuase the accelerator doesn't just have 2 settings, (on and off) does it. You don't have to drive or accelerate with you foot flat to the floor all the time so I am sure 275 bhp would easliy be drive-able. TVR's, Porsche's, Ferrari's and Lambo's would all spin their wheels up to about 80mph (maybe higher) if you floored it but you don't. Same for the ST.

Having said that, you would need to consider other things. Does it come with a new gear box otherwise its going to be raining datson cogs (think about it) and the brakes would defo need to be upgraded. Insurance would be a nitemare to. As someone once said to me, if you want a fast car, then buy one thats fast in the first place. (Actually, I think that was Clarkson on an old video).

TVR's, Porsche's, Ferrari's and Lambo's would all spin their wheels up to about 80mph (maybe higher) if you floored it but you don't. Same for the ST.
The absolute maximum you would want to put through a front wheel drive set up is 250 BHP but you would need some serious torque control system to stop the wheels spinning. If you added a strong LSD you would then find that the car only wants to go in a straight line, a bit like what Focus RSs suffer with. I would agree that 200BHP is probably tops for the Fiesta. The difference between rear wheel drivers not spinning their wheels and front drivers spinning theirs is because they are rear wheel drive! What happens to the vehicle when you accelerate? The weight goes to the back of the car, yes? So in a front wheel drive with 200+BHP no matter how much you press the pedal all that torque from the engine will go to the back of the car, lift the front wheels of the floor and make them spin. In a rear wheel drive car all the weight goes to the back of the car and just digs the drive wheels further into the tarmac to give even more grip. This is why it's possible to get serious power figures with rear wheel drive or all wheel drive cars with a rear biased split in power because the more torque you get, the more grip you get.
BTW 275BHP would completely destroy the IB5 gearbox in the Fiesta. My advice would be to buy a nice fast rear wheel drive car, say a Capri 2.8 injection , shoe-horn in a Scorpio Cosworth 2.9 24V engine , then convert it to TWIN turbo chargers and you'll be getting easily 300 BHP plus You'll find that a lot cheaper than trying to get you're Fiesta to put out 275 BHP and the money you save you could spend on a new Focus ST to use as you're everyday car and to upgrade the no-existant brakes on your 300BHP Capri. (Brakes were an optional extra on Capris, as all previous owners will tell you! )

I agree with everyone 200 BHP is the MAX cos after U would get to much wheel spin, chassie may not cope with the power as well and brakes, gearbow would jsut blow everytime and fuel consuption wouldbe very bad!!
The chassie is capable of it, this is what most people were annoyed about... the car being so much more capable than 150bhp... but it's a great little car and if you want to increase the power, go ahead and do it.
Top Dolla to Dave... well explained.
Yes, definately go for 200BHP if that's what you want, but you'll need to spend some money on decent tyres suspension and brakes to cope. I think the clutch may need looking at as well. Let us know what you find out.

Back again, sorry PinkRinse you thought it was an advert, i was just looking around for info on the Fiesta and tuning her, and that was info i had not seen on this forum, so i thought it was a good time to joint up and inform all the Fiesta lovers here ! I don’t plan to take the Fiesta up to 275bhp as it would be like driving on ice! and just think of all the tyres you would go through ! I will take her up to 170bhp (at some point) as some of the power graphs out there show a very worth while improvement in torque (NM squared hence rate of acceleration) across the whole power band. Speak soon

Fair point Dave 170 is easily achievable with a full & decent exhaust system & induction kit. Some cars seem to need a helping hand with a chip (wouldnt touch Bluefin with a verrrrry long barge pole!). Mine is running at 170bhp and I'm happy with it. No chip as yet but seriously considering a custom remap to make the most of the power mods I have.

Doesn't the ECU have the capability to adapt to an Exhaust system and an improved airfilter?
