Interesting. Have you test drove the ST? If so, how big is the difference? How do you rate the Zetec-S?

Morning folks,
Quick question. I'm interested to know what everyone upgraded from to the ST. I'm currently trying to weigh up if it would be a good time to change cars or hang on to the end of my current Ford Options agreement next Feb - when I will have a MGFV of my current car of £2580. Should I shop around now and see what I can get part-ex or hang on, sell privately now, or even wait until next Feb. What is the current discount percentage for Privilage vouchers?
Thanks Colin
Hi Colin, I moved (down?) from a MKI Focus 1.8 Collection 3 door.
I wanted the Fiesta ST as soon as I saw it but was un-impressed with the pre-facelift interior and spec. When the facelift came out I had to have one as it was a massive improvement.
I'm not sure if you get the same Privilidge deals in Belfast, you will have to phone your Privilidge dept. and find out. In the UK the discount rates have now changed. Before you used to get a set privilidge price for the car, e.g; the Fiesta ST before 01/01/07 was £10,250 OTR with no optional extras. Now you get a set discount (on the Fiesta ST for example) of £1500, over and above what ever discount a normal retail customer can get. Here's an example: The list retail OTR price of a standard Fiesta ST is £13,995 but Archer's of Ashby (for example) are knocking them out to Retail customers for £10,750. You are then are entitled to a further discount of £1500 making the OTR cost to you of £9,250 (plus any optional extras you may wish to add on)
All in all it seems to be a better deal as in some cases (Kas for example) retail customers were getting a better deal than Privilidge ones. The only downside, I feel, is that you don't get any discount off optional extras anymore.
Sell your car Privately mate, when you're ready, and walk in to do the deal with no part ex and a cash deposit, you'll get a much better deal that way. And shop around for the cheapest RETAIL price. Do not tell them you are Privilidge UNTIL you've secured the CHEAPEST retail price.
Hope this helps

Fuel econmoy really isn't that bad considering. It's not something I'd worry about, it's costing me exactly the same per week as my Focus 1.8 did

I hated the collection alloys so I made them swap them for Zetec alloys when I ordered it
The collection alloys were hideous! I am going to ring my dealer todat to talk about changing over. Though to be honest I wont be able to afford the ST now due to the insurance for this year and the fact that if I just get to hand the car back I get nothing to put down as a deposit after my Privilege voucher. I need my monthly payment to be equal too or less than what it is now.

well, worth a go. zs pretty much looks the same as the st, apart from the side mouldings not being body coloured (that can be sorted tho) and the interior. They are pretty quick too, its definatly the next best thing to the st model.

I upgraded from a MK1 Seat Ibiza Special 1.5 systeme Porsche. Absolutely mental for a first car, and you don't see many of them around!! But uni meant I had to leave it at home and my brother seized the engine Then when I came back last year I had a P.O.S. Rover 216SE. Bad car, bad bad car...

Yeah we're getting that passenger air-bag switch put on and also having ESP fitted which is another thing that I think should be standard. Not too fussed about about getting car seat in and out of the back as the front seat does come forward quite alot so plenty of space to get it in, certainly alot more than the C2. Really can't wait to get the ST, wanted one when they first came out but couldn't afford one then, also insurance would have been far too much. Roll on March....although haven't got a proper delivery date yet it's still estimated.

The Mondeo was a september 05 55 plate TDCi. I wasnt particularly happy with it cause it got bashed and while it was a brilliant cruiser, the handling wasnt firm enough. Because I've had Diesels for the last 10-12 years, I ordered a Zetec S TDCi, this got delayed due to the 30th special edition and my pre-registered Fiesta came up at the same price of £10.5k so I snapped it up. Im loving my Fiesta , just learning to rev a petrol engine again.

This is me with my first car, a 2001 fiesta black 1.25 with full leather obviously. I worked hard on this car and i like to think it looked pretty good. This is my last car, i never got chance to finish working on it unfortunately, but the VTS was fantastic fun to drive, i miss it a lot I currently own a standard Astra Sport Hatch in black too but i have no pictures of it, i'm sure you've seen them on the road in their millions! Just waiting for my frozen white ST now, my first car i've bought from new, hence i think i'll keep it standard for a good while.

Well ive test driven the St 3 times now, and i would defo say id b DOWN grading!! Its a shame really, because i do really like the St, spec looks wise, does look a really nice car....but for performance, and sheer driving its just not there, well not compared to the puma. Each time ive drove home from a test drive in my car i just feel like im in such a better "drivers car"...from the noise to the acceleration to the handling, its just better? wot can i say? Purely my opinion but i have been dissapointed...Still not to say i wont go for an St as i do like them, but i just wanted more from it.

Jonny - I know what you mean. After the test drive I thought that the car wasn't as involving as it could be but I think its a case of getting used to it. The ST is a gem that just gets better than harder you push it. There have been many discussions about how fast the ST is and I think the general belief is "faster than you first think". I stilllove getting into my old 306 D-Turbo for a play..... more rewarding to get it around a corner quickly. I guess the ST could be described as effortless

Is it a ford racing puma you have Jon? The reason you may think that is because you are used to your puma and what it can do, once you are used to an ST, you may then prefer it once you realise what it is capable of.

No just a standard 1.7 puma....i think u may well b rite. ive had the puma for 7yrs, So im bound to b set in my ways a little! Plus fact u never realy have long enough on test drive to really tell wot car can do. As i said i think the ST is a great looking car and obviously a very fast one...im still making mind up, just dont want to lose anything that my puma has.

I tried the suzuki, but I've heard aftercare is a bit crap... Also the car didn't quite feel right. I do agree they look really good though! I guess it helped that the guy who demo'd the ST with me knew how to drive so he kinda showed it off well But I agree. You will not go wrong with the ST.

I tried the Swift sport and loved it but it is smaller than the ST and doesn't have split folding rear seats (still bigger than the C2 mind you!) I liked the handling and had the Cambridge dearler who was desperate to sell tell me it had limitless grip...... well my only response was "I'll be the judge of that" and threw it into a slide on the next roundabout (don't worry peeps..... empty road) The fear in the guys face was a picture I'll never forget! Personally I think the ST is better in every way. Its faster, bigger (whilst still being a small car), more practical and cheaper! (I was looking just before the UK launch so they wouldn't budge on price) Its still a nice car mind you and less common than the ST.

here ST are not common at all! so if I buy a Swift it may become even more rare!!

Swift is the cheaper, and maybe slightly more economical with the 1.6 engine....St is faster and has more room, prob generally the better car, comes with more on it, ie..6 track and air con...probably still with ST rite now.
