Bloody hell... cracked from the heated screen. I wouldn't pay for this... go to ford and get them to replace it... that shouldn't happen!!! I've never heard that before.

That won't affect your insurance which is good... but you should send the bill to and explain the problem... or take it to your dealership and get the manager out.

I'm doing exactly the same about my steering rack which just cost me £445 just for the part and labour ontop of that... they going to get a shouting at by me!!!

£445 not a nice bill? so youve had the work done and are taking it back to ford? is this possiable once the affected area has been sorted?

there is a possibility you had a chip in the windscreen. heat on a frozen windscreen causes the glass to expand, and eventually after lots of expanding and contracting the chip will split the window, which isn't fords fault if this is the case, however its not neccisarily yours either cos you didn't know about the chip.

Probably sounds a silly thing of me to mention, but maybe make sure that they've put a heated windscreen back in when they've replaced it! I only say this becuase I know someone who had to get the heated windscreen replaced on his focus (not because of the problem you had) and they put normal clear glass in.

Yeah i did make sure the chap put in tinted and heated, i had visions of that happening myself! there wasnt any chips to look at the screen but guess there could of something tiny which caused it?

Possibly could have been something small, and if the chip was where the tax disc holder was, maybe made it less noticable?

NGST, what Fordie said was exactly that happened to me one morning. It turned out I'd had a chip in the screen, the HFS had been on, parked up & came back to a whopping crack in the screen.

yeah take the bill to your dealer and demand to speak to the service manager and explain whats gone on and get it sorted under warranty then you will get your money back,if they try and fob you off demand to speak to the dealer priciple.

You can't go in there storming norman-like for a cracked window because its more than likely not a fault with the car! Did autoglass shed any light on what may have caused it? Could you not get it analysed or something, cos without any proof of what caused it, there is nothing anyone can do! they would have to look at the glass which is no doubt now in a skip somewhere.

amanda how do you mean"it might not be a fault with the car" it should not have happened in the first place (oh of course its a characteristic of the car silly me) lets put it this way if the windscreen cracks on a frosty morning when you put the heated windscrren on in my eyes as long as the car is still under manufactures warranty then it should be covered under the warranty, get back to the dealer with the reciept and see what they can do with recovering the costs back to you.
